Asus Tuf FX504 Review: Best Gaming Laptop

January 29, 2020

Now we are in the sub-600 dollar section and the Asus tuf fx504 might just be the best value for your money out of all the 5 laptops we have reviewed so far. The ASUS TUF Gaming FX504 is an incredible powerhouse of a gaming laptop and can handle anything you throw at it from applications to heavy games. The things you get with this laptop can’t be matched by any other in this price or even some far more expensive models.

With its 8th gen core i5, 8GB of high-performance RAM, and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, this laptop surely is built to do perform and perform it does. Possibly the only weak point here is that it is a bit on the heavy side and doesn’t have the strongest battery. Apart from that, the FX504 is one of the best laptops on amazon, no matter the price.

Now, let’s get started with the features of this beast of a computer!

ASUS TUF FX504 Features

There are many features that make this laptop stand out but the most important ones in our opinion are the extra things you are getting with it.The most important one is the free operating system – Windows 10. Next on that list are the two games you are getting:

  • Gears Of War 4
  • Age Of Empires Definitive Edition

There are a lot of other cool little details that I will get into at the end of this review. First, we need to go through some of the major strong points of this laptop, the first being the CPU.

Inside the Asus tuf fx504, there is an 8th generation intel core i5-8300H, which is the jacked-up version of this processor and can go up to 3.9GHz which is more than enough for anything you can think of from working applications to games.

This processor has four physical cores and a Level 3 Cache of 8MB. Those characteristics are truly amazing for a laptop of this calibre and ASUS have made sure that you are getting nothing but the best here.

Speaking of getting the best…

RAM Memory

Even if the RAM memory is just 8GB, it is one of the (if not the) fastest types of DDR4 RAM memories out there currently for laptops. It runs at 2666MHz. That allows for smooth performance even at the game settings set on “High” or “Ultra”. Another thing that allows for such cranked up settings is the video card.

With this model, you are getting an actual Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050 graphics card with 2GB of memory for a superior gaming experience and multi-tasking when you are working on this laptop. As a whole, thanks to the CPU/GPU/RAM combination here, this laptop can really be used for anything ranging from your everyday tasks to heavy gaming.

There are dual fans to keep your laptop from overheating. They have anti-dust technology which makes maintaining this machine easier over time. They also go out from the back like a proper gaming laptop, just like the Acer Nitro 5.

In terms of storage we have yet another impressive metric for you. This laptop saves on a 256GB M.2 SSD hard drive, which is faster than normal first-gen solid-state drives and has lightning fast boot-up speeds as well as game-loading speeds (assuming you don’t get an additional hard drive).

Pro Tip: Split the 256GB solid-state drive into two partitions and use one of them solely for the OS. Use the other 128GB part for gaming and media files. That way, when you re-install your Windows you can only work on half of your SSD preserving the other half.

The display isn’t one of the strong sides of this model although it is a 15.6 inch Full HD 1080p IPS panel. It is sharp enough for most games but feels lacking at times when it comes to things like dynamic contrast and gamma range. The bezels on all sides are really thick which can be a downside for some people.

Dimensions & Build Quality

In terms of dimensions, this laptop isn’t giving you great numbers, especially with the weight. It is actually quite thin considering all that is inside, coming at just below 1 inch. The weight is 5.07lbs which is normal for a 15-inch laptop.

It is okay to travel around with it but you will have to bring an extra battery pack as the battery life depletes quite fast.

Additional Features

This laptop features a Gigabit wave 2 wifi (up to 1,7Gbps). That allows for a very fast internet connection for people who get this model for online gaming.

The LED-backlit keyboard is excellent for gaming in dim conditions and is very responsible with good key travel. ASUS gives it a 20 million key presses durability warranty, as per their testings of it. That is far longer than normal keyboards and just on par with other external gaming keyboards. Quite impressive to put that in a 0.98 inches thin device.

Conclusion & Rating

Product Rating Updated March, 2019: (5/5)

If you are serious about gaming on your laptop, then there is no other deal such as this one for now. This laptop straight-up denies any attempts of its competition for any logical comparison, especially at this price point. It comes with the newest CPU from intel, has an ultra-high-performance RAM memory and an actual Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 inside. Sure, there are better laptops out there but they are also a few hundreds of dollars more expensive. Not to mention that this ASUS TUF Gaming FX504 has a very comfortable keyboard which almost feels like a real gaming keyboard. That on its own is a selling point for most of the gamers. We gave this model a five out of five stars rating.
